Screening refers to the application of tests or procedures to people without symptoms in order to detect disease or identify people at increased risk of disease. The purpose of breast cancer screening is to identify breast cancer in people at an earlier stage before any symptoms appear, so that effective and timely treatment can be given to prevent cancer from progressing.
